The FBI is warning that people with smartphones and other mobile devices could be victims of cyber-attacks.
The agency issued a statement on Friday warning that the U.S. government may be vulnerable to cyberattacks from nation states and criminal gangs.
The FBI is urging people with mobile phones and other devices to be vigilant, and to protect them from any threats or breaches.
“We urge you to use encryption whenever possible, and protect your information with a strong password.
If you’re concerned about being compromised, you should use a secure and trusted password,” the FBI said in the statement.
The bureau said hackers have been using ransomware attacks to collect sensitive personal information, and in the last month have attacked hospitals, the military, federal buildings and other targets.
The federal government said it has begun to deploy cyber-security teams that would be able to identify, investigate and prevent cyber-related threats.
The cyber threat has become so intense, the FBI is now looking to develop tools to help law enforcement agencies, like local police, combat the problem.
The statement said the FBI and other federal agencies have been collaborating with private cybersecurity firms, like Symantec and Kaspersky Lab.
